It has been almost three years since All of Us Are Dead premiered on Netflix, but season 2 has yet to receive an official release date. The horror K-drama tells the story of a zombie outbreak that begins at a school in the fictional city of Hyosan after a professor develops a virus that turns rage into strength. All of Us Are Dead is one of the best K-dramas on Netflix and has found worldwide success, yet the wait for the second season has been frustrating.

Big-budget streaming shows taking long to return isn’t new. From Stranger Things to House of the Dragon, viewers have learned to wait a couple of years for new seasons of some of the most popular shows across all platforms and networks. However, over two years after the show was renewed, All of Us Are Dead season 2 still doesn’t have a release date.
All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Was Announced In June 2022
The First Season Was A Hit For Netflix
All of Us Are Dead season 1 dropped on Netflix on January 28, 2022, with 12 episodes. Netflix had already found a lot of success with original K-dramas, especially 2020’s Sweet Home and 2021’s Squid Game. All of Us Are Dead continued that trend by reportedly bringing 474.26 million viewing hours in the first 30 days according to Nielsen (via What’s On Netflix) and appearing in the Netflix Top 10 of multiple countries. While season 1 fully covered the webtoon All of Us Are Dead is based on, it ended on a cliffhanger.

All of Us Are Dead is based on a webtoon called Now At Our School.
All of Us Are Dead changed the end of the webtoon, allowing the story to continue past the destruction of the school. This was a clear sign that the show was going to continue if successful. On June 6, 2022, All of Us Are Dead 2 was officially announced by Netflix. Two announcement videos were released, one of which included the show’s lead actors. Interestingly, Cheong-san’s actor Yoon Chan-young was part of the announcement, which indicated that his character was not really dead and was going to return in the second season.

Per The Chosun Daily, Film Monster CEO Park Chul-soo announced on April 2024 that All of Us Are Dead season 2 was going to start filming in that same year and that the show was going to return in the latter half of 2025. This means that All of Us Are Dead 2 was originally planned to come out three and a half years after the first season, which itself was already a significantly large window but not so different from other Netflix webseries. For comparison, both Sweet Home and Squid Game took three years to return after their debuts.

According to Star News, All of Us Are Dead season 2’s production has been pushed back to 2025. This means that All of Us Are Dead 2 has reportedly not started filming yet and won’t start until next year. In other words, the original 2025 release window seems all but impossible now. With the show filming in 2025, All of Us Are Dead season 2 might only premiere in 2026. This would make it a four-year window between the first and second seasons of the zombie K-drama, which is surprising even for a big-budget show.

Per Star News, the reason why All of Us Are Dead season 2 has moved production to 2025 is to ensure a better final product. It must be noted that Sweet Home and Squid Game produced the second and third seasons back to back, which is why their respective third chapters took way less than their second ones. Sweet Home 3 premiered less than a year after season 2, whereas Squid Game 3 is confirmed for 2025 after the show’s return on December 26, 2024. It’s unclear if All of Us Are Dead will do something similar.

With All of Us Are Dead season 2 only filming in 2025, the Netflix K-drama might need to include a time skip to account for the characters' ages. While it is more than usual for actors to play characters who are younger than them – especially in high school and college settings – All of Us Are Dead’s season 2 delay may just be too much. All of the main characters are supposed to be high schoolers during the events of the show, yet more than three years will have passed in the real world.
